Background:
Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) is a major cause of cancer mortality worldwide. The occurrence and development of colon cancer is regulated by complex mechanisms that require further exploration. Recently, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) were found to be related to the mortality of colon cancer patients through their participation in competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. Therefore, screening the lncRNAs involved in colon cancer may contribute to clarifying the complex mechanisms.
Methods:
In this study, we explored the potential lncRNAs associated with colon cancer by establishing a ceRNA network using bioinformatics, followed by biological verification.
Results:
RP11-197K6.1 and RP11-400N13.3 were screened out owing to their involvement in the expression of CDK2NA, a gene that potentially prevents colon cancer cells from high oxygen levels.
Conclusions:
Our work explored the mechanisms of recurrence and metastasis in colon cancer and provided potential targets for drug development.
