    Summary

    Neonatal monocytes exhibit robust phagocytic functions comparable to adults. This suggests that increased infant susceptibility to infections is not due to abnormal monocyte activity.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To quantitatively assess the principal phagocytic activities of monocytes from term infant cord blood.
    • To compare neonatal monocyte functions with those of healthy adult volunteers.
