Autopsy Histopathologic Lung Findings in Patients Treated With Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

Summary

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) lung pathology reveals bronchopneumonia and edema. Diffuse alveolar damage (DAD) occurred in both venovenous (VV) and venoarterial (VA) ECMO, suggesting protective lung ventilation may benefit VA-ECMO patients.
