Abstract:
Simple phenomenological models of rapid adaptation do not account for details in the response of auditory-nerve fibers to the onset of high-intensity sound stimulus. Simple refractory effects, in combination with higher-order discharge-history effects appear necessary to fully account for the oscillations and plateaus observed in post-stimulus time histograms.
