    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To examine the detection of simple and complex tones in the presence of broadband masking noise.

    • Two experiments were conducted using a two-interval, two-alternative forced-choice (2I, 2AFC) task.
    • Listeners detected pure tones (220, 1100, 3850 Hz) or an 18-tone complex (110–7260 Hz) in 64-dB SPL masking noise.
