Robot-assisted retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (R-RPLND) offers a minimally invasive alternative for testicular tumors. This case report details a successful R-RPLND in Japan, highlighting its potential safety and efficacy.

Background:

  • Open retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (O-RPLND) is the standard for testicular tumors.
  • Robot-assisted RPLND (R-RPLND) is emerging as a minimally invasive option.

Observation:

  • A 32-year-old man with a left testicular teratoma and enlarged para-aortic lymph nodes underwent surgery.
  • The patient had a left orchiectomy followed by R-RPLND.

Findings:

  • The R-RPLND procedure took 279 minutes with 189 minutes console time.
  • Minimal bleeding (59 mL) and no major complications were observed.
  • This represents the first reported R-RPLND case in Japan.

Implications:

  • R-RPLND shows promise as a safe and effective treatment for testicular tumors.
