Age and short-term feed restriction effects on plasma triglyceride and free fatty acid concentrations in male turkeys

Abstract:
Age (6 to 68 weeks of age) was without effect on plasma concentrations of free fatty acids (FFA; means + .18 +/- .02 mu eq/ml) and triglycerides (TG; means + .74 +/- mu eq/ml) in male turkeys fed ad libitum practical type growing or breeder diets. Short-term (up to 44 hr) feed restriction resulted in an approximate threefold increase in FFA concentrations and an approximate 70% decrease in TG concentration at all ages.
