Background:

Urgent need to diversify the physician workforce in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) to address patient diversity and care disparities.
Limited data exists on effective recruitment strategies for underrepresented minoritized groups in OB/GYN.

Purpose of the Study:

To outline actionable steps for departments to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
To provide strategies for attracting a diverse applicant pool in OB/GYN.
To emphasize the importance of holistic review in applicant selection.

Main Methods:

Implementing departmental DEI commitments.
Developing targeted recruitment strategies for diverse candidates.
Utilizing a holistic review process for applicant evaluation.
Establishing support systems for faculty and trainees to promote sustained diversity.

Main Results:

The framework successfully increased the diversity of the authors' OB/GYN residency program.
Demonstrated a practical approach to enhancing physician workforce diversity.

Conclusions:

A structured DEI framework is effective in increasing diversity within OB/GYN residency programs.
