[Unilateral atrophy of the kidney]

We considered and discussed the case histories in comparison with the clinical symptoms and the consequent therapy of 47 urological patients with unilaterally shrunken kidney. In 43% of the patients their main symptom was high blood pressure, 53% of the patients were then clinically proven to suffer from albuminuria. In 34% of the patients there was a case history of nephrolithiasis and in 32% of the patients nephrolithiasis would be clinically proven. In 20 patients nephrectomy was performed. After this procedure all the patients were freed from urinary infections and in 75% of them the high blood pressure could be considerably lowered.
