Self-report inventories are objective personality assessments that use multiple-choice items or numbered scales, typically ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). Summary

The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) may not be ideal for screening anxiety disorders. A general depression factor dominates the scale, potentially overstating the utility of anxiety sub-scales.

  • To investigate the factor structure of the EPDS in a large postpartum sample.
