Self-Report Tests of Personality01:22

Self-Report Tests of Personality

356
Self-report inventories are objective personality assessments that use multiple-choice items or numbered scales, typically ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). They are often called Likert scales after Rensis Likert. These inventories are widely used due to their ease of administration and cost-effectiveness. One of the most prominent examples is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), initially developed in the 1940s to assess abnormal personality traits.

Summary
This summary is machine-generated.

The Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) STEP 1 screening tool shows high reliability for self-assessment, particularly in nutrition, psychological, and locomotion domains. This supports its use as a self-administered screening tool for older adults.

Area of Science:

  • Gerontology
  • Public Health
  • Digital Health

Background:

  • The Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) framework aims to maintain functional ability in older adults.
  • The ICOPE STEP 1 screening tool, accessible via the ICOPE Monitor app, facilitates early identification of health issues.
  • Validating self-assessment tools is crucial for scalable and accessible geriatric care.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the inter-rater agreement of the ICOPE STEP 1 screening tool when comparing self-assessment via the ICOPE Monitor app to professional screening.
  • To evaluate the reliability of the ICOPE STEP 1 tool across different domains of intrinsic capacity.

Main Methods:

  • Two studies compared ICOPE STEP 1 self-screening results with professional screenings using Gwet's agreement coefficient.
  • Study 1 involved direct comparison on the same day within the INSPIRE-T cohort.
  • Study 2 analyzed real-world data from the INSPIRE-ICOPE care cohort with a median 76-day interval between self and professional screening.

Main Results:

  • Inter-rater agreement varied by domain, ranging from moderate (cognition, 0.49 in Study 1) to very good (nutrition, 0.99 in Study 1).
  • Study 2 showed similar trends, with nutrition scoring high (0.97) and cognition lower (0.36).
  • Agreement for cognition and hearing was higher in participants under 60. Time orientation items within cognition demonstrated high reliability.

Conclusions:

  • The ICOPE STEP 1 tool demonstrates strong reliability for self-assessment, supporting its use as a standalone screening method.
  • High reliability was observed for nutrition, psychological, and locomotion domains across age groups.
  • Further discussion is needed regarding self-assessment accuracy for cognition, vision, and hearing domains in older adults using the app.
