    Summary

    Rigid ureteroscopy successfully removed ureteric stones in 67% of patients. Despite being time-consuming with minor injury risks, it is recommended for lower and middle ureteric calculi management.

    Background:

    • Ureteric calculi present a significant clinical challenge.
    • Minimally invasive procedures are increasingly preferred for stone management.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and outcomes of rigid ureteroscopy for various ureteric conditions.
    • To assess the suitability of rigid ureteroscopy for managing lower and middle ureteric calculi.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 58 patients undergoing ureteroscopy since March 1984.
    • Indications included ureteric calculi, stricture dilatation, haematuria evaluation, filling defect assessment, and stent insertion.

    Main Results:

    • Successful stone removal was achieved in 33 out of 49 patients (67%).
    • The procedure was noted as time-consuming with a high risk of minor injury.
    • Long-term complications were infrequent.

    Conclusions:

    • Rigid ureteroscopy is an effective treatment for ureteric calculi.
    • Despite its drawbacks, it is considered the procedure of choice for calculi in the lower and middle ureter.
    • Careful patient selection and technique can mitigate risks.
