Background:

Ectopic thyroid tissue, particularly lingual thyroid, can present as an oropharyngeal mass.
Hashimoto thyroiditis can affect lingual thyroid, leading to gland enlargement and symptoms.

Observation:

A case of Hashimoto disease in an adolescent female presenting with an oropharyngeal mass is described.
Enlarging lingual thyroid necessitates consideration of ectopic thyroid tissue.

Findings:

Imaging modalities like ultrasonography and Tc-99m scintigraphy are sufficient for diagnosing lingual thyroid.
Thyroid function tests are crucial when ectopic thyroid is detected.

Implications:

Early diagnosis and appropriate management, including levothyroxine therapy, can reduce lingual thyroid size and alleviate symptoms.
This case highlights the importance of considering lingual thyroid in the differential diagnosis of neck masses.
