Fractures: Bone Repair

Treatment for a fracture is based on the type of break, the bone affected, and the patient's age.
Minor fractures with no bone displacement are treated by immobilizing the fractured bone using a cast or splint. Summary

Lateral coronal plane fractures of the distal femur are more common and vertical, often affecting the condyle's weight-bearing area. Posterior-to-anterior fixation is biomechanically superior, though anterior approaches remain popular.

Background:

Conclusions:

Posterior-to-anterior fixation with lag screws or buttressing plates offers superior biomechanical efficiency.
Anterior fixation methods are widely used due to familiarity and lower neurovascular risk.
No consensus exists on optimal screw diameter and number for fixation.
