    Background:

    • Supervised exercise programs are crucial for cardiac rehabilitation after coronary events.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the conditioning effects and participation rates of supervised exercise programs in elderly versus younger patients following a recent coronary event.

    Main Methods:

    • A cohort of 100 patients (21 elderly, >=62 years; 79 younger, <=61 years) with recent coronary events participated in a supervised exercise program.
    • Evaluated peak exercise intensity, submaximal heart rate-blood pressure product, and program entry rates before and after the intervention.

    Main Results:

    • Both elderly and younger patients demonstrated significant improvements in peak exercise intensity (68% increase) and reductions in submaximal heart rate-blood pressure product (approx. 26% decrease).

    • Despite similar benefits, elderly individuals exhibit significantly lower participation in cardiac rehabilitation exercise programs.
    • Strategies to enhance engagement and enrollment of elderly patients in cardiac rehabilitation are necessary to improve long-term cardiac disability reduction.
