Unlike carbon, water, and nitrogen, phosphorus is not present in the atmosphere as a gas. Instead, most phosphorus in the ecosystem exists as compounds, such as phosphate ions (PO43-), found in soil, water, sediment and rocks. Phosphorus is often a limiting nutrient (i.e., in short supply). Consequently, phosphorus is added to most agricultural fertilizers, which can cause environmental problems related to runoff in aquatic ecosystems.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the influence of edapho-climatic factors on PSB abundance, potential, and diversity in Moroccan agricultural soils.

  • Isolation and characterization of 51 PSB strains from four Moroccan regions using National Botanical Research Institute's phosphate (NBRIP) agar.

Conclusions:

  • Bacterial community density and potency are significantly influenced by temperature, precipitation, soil nutrients, and texture.
  • Edapho-climatic factors are key determinants of PSB effectiveness in Moroccan agroecosystems.
  • Optimizing PSB application requires consideration of specific ecological traits for enhanced agricultural productivity.
