This study introduces the Fuzzy Control Energy Efficient (FCEE) routing protocol for wireless mesh networks. FCEE enhances network lifetime and performance by optimizing path selection and reducing unnecessary packet forwarding, outperforming existing protocols.
Area of Science:
- Computer Science
- Network Engineering
- Wireless Communication
Background:
- Efficient routing is critical for communication system performance, especially in resource-constrained mobile ad-hoc networks.
- Existing routing protocols face challenges in optimizing path selection and managing node energy.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose and evaluate the Fuzzy Control Energy Efficient (FCEE) routing protocol for wireless mesh networks.
- To enhance network lifetime, performance, and energy efficiency compared to existing protocols.
Main Methods:
- Developed the FCEE protocol by integrating the Ad-Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol with fuzzy logic.
- Implemented a memory-based channel with fuzzy logic to restrict unnecessary broadcast packets based on node energy.
- Conducted extensive simulations to compare FCEE with AODV and Intelligent Routing AODV (IRAODV).
Main Results:
- FCEE significantly improved reliability, link connectivity, and route lifetimes over AODV.
- Achieved higher average throughput (351.374 Kbps) compared to IRAODV (90 Kbps) and AODV (39 Kbps).
- Demonstrated superior energy efficiency with average energy consumption of 14 joules, versus 40 for IRAODV and 90 for AODV.
Conclusions:
- The FCEE protocol effectively addresses routing challenges in wireless mesh networks.
- Fuzzy logic integration with AODV enhances network lifetime, performance, and energy efficiency.
- FCEE presents a promising solution for future wireless communication systems.
