    Summary

This study shows that brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) can detect user responses to predictive text errors using electroencephalogram (EEG) and eye tracking. These brain-computer interfaces offer adaptive control for digital technologies.

    Area of Science:

    • Neuroscience
    • Human-Computer Interaction
    • Assistive Technology

    Background:

    • Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) offer augmented control for digital navigation.
    • Predictive text systems are common tools with varied usage contexts.
    • Understanding user neurophysiological responses is key for adaptive systems.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To explore BCI application in predictive text systems.
    • To analyze neurophysiological responses to predictive text variations.
    • To evaluate the feasibility of a closed-loop, adaptive BCI.

    Main Methods:

    • Experiment involving electroencephalogram (EEG) and eye tracking (ET).
    • Participants completed a self-paced typing task in a simulated predictive text environment.
    • Varied user reliance on predictive text and encountered correct/incorrect generations.

    Main Results:

    • Erroneous text generations evoke measurable neurophysiological responses (EEG, pupillometry).
    • These responses vary based on user reliance on the predictive text system.
    • Promising results for passive, hybrid BCIs with adaptive frameworks.

    Conclusions:

    • Neurophysiological feedback is viable for real-time system performance assessment.
    • BCIs can be adapted for predictive text systems.
    • This approach supports adaptive human-computer interaction.
