Self-Report Tests of Personality01:22

Self-Report Tests of Personality

355
Self-report inventories are objective personality assessments that use multiple-choice items or numbered scales, typically ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). They are often called Likert scales after Rensis Likert. These inventories are widely used due to their ease of administration and cost-effectiveness. One of the most prominent examples is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), initially developed in the 1940s to assess abnormal personality traits.

Summary
This summary is machine-generated.

Six frailty instruments show strong construct validity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Further research is needed to confirm reliability and responsiveness for accurate frailty measurement in RA.

Area of Science:

  • Rheumatology
  • Gerontology
  • Psychometrics

Background:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting joints.
  • Frailty is a common geriatric syndrome that increases vulnerability to adverse health outcomes.
  • Assessing frailty in RA patients is crucial for risk stratification and management.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically review and evaluate the psychometric properties of frailty instruments used in adults with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
  • To guide the selection of appropriate frailty instruments for clinical practice and research in RA.

Main Methods:

  • A systematic review was conducted following PROSPERO registration.
  • Searched six electronic databases for studies on frailty in RA adults published before May 25, 2022.
  • Synthesized and graded psychometric properties using Consensus-Based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) methodology.

Main Results:

  • Included 22 articles examining 16 frailty instruments in RA cohorts (mean age 60.1 years, predominantly female).
  • Construct validity was the most frequently assessed property, with 14/16 instruments performing favorably.
  • Six instruments demonstrated the highest psychometric ratings: Fried's Criteria adaptations, 32-Item and 45-Item Frailty Indexes, and Comprehensive Rheumatologic Assessment of Frailty.

Conclusions:

  • Six frailty instruments exhibit favorable construct validity in RA, correlating with age, disease activity, and physical function.
  • Frailty assessment holds promise for risk stratification in RA.
  • Further research is essential to evaluate reliability, responsiveness, and validity for accurate frailty measurement in RA.
