  • Diagnostic laparoscopy revealed a hyperemic terminal ileum.

Findings:

  • Ileal perforation occurred due to unnoticed toothpick ingestion.
  • Foreign object perforations are diagnostically challenging and prone to misdiagnosis.
  • CT scans are highly effective for detecting toothpicks; laparoscopy provides definitive diagnosis.

Implications:

  • Prompt consideration of toothpick ingestion in acute abdominal cases is vital.
  • Timely diagnosis and treatment can prevent life-threatening outcomes.
  • Treatment strategies range from laparoscopic suturing to intestinal resection.
