Summary

Preoperative OCT parameters, like SUKIMA, can predict visual function after epiretinal membrane (ERM) surgery. Measuring the gap area (SUKIMA) may help forecast metamorphopsia outcomes post-vitrectomy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association of preoperative Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) parameters with visual function after vitrectomy in ERM eyes.
  • To identify OCT parameters that predict visual acuity and metamorphopsia outcomes.

Main Methods:

  • 33 eyes with ERM underwent vitrectomy.
  • Preoperative OCT scans were analyzed for parameters including SUKIMA (gap area), central retinal thickness (CRT), and inner nuclear layer (INL) thickness.
  • Visual acuity (VA) and metamorphopsia were measured pre- and postoperatively.
  • Multivariate regression analysis was used to assess associations.

Main Results:

  • Age and INL thickness were related to postoperative VA.
  • Age and preoperative CRT were associated with the change in VA.
  • SUKIMA correlated with postoperative metamorphopsia.
  • Age, EIFL, and SUKIMA were associated with metamorphopsia improvement.

Conclusions:

  • Preoperative SUKIMA measurement may predict postoperative metamorphopsia and its improvement in ERM eyes.
  • OCT parameters provide valuable insights into visual function outcomes after ERM surgery.
