    Summary

Cementless fixation endoprostheses showed good results comparable to cement-fixed prostheses. While early complications were more frequent, fewer late complications suggest promising outcomes for cementless joint replacements.

    Area of Science:

    • Orthopedic surgery
    • Biomaterials science

    Context:

    • Cementless fixation is an alternative to traditional cement fixation in joint replacement surgery.
    • Evaluating the long-term efficacy and complication profile of cementless endoprostheses is crucial for clinical decision-making.

    Purpose:

    • To compare the outcomes of cementless fixed endoprostheses (type PM) with cement-fixed prostheses.
    • To assess the incidence of early and late complications associated with cementless fixation.

    Summary:

    • A follow-up study of 40 cementless fixed endoprostheses (type PM) demonstrated favorable results.
    • Outcomes were comparable to those of cement-fixed prostheses, with a trend towards more early complications but fewer late complications.

    Impact:

    • These findings are encouraging for the adoption of cementless fixation techniques in joint replacement.
    • The reduced incidence of late complications may lead to improved long-term patient outcomes and implant survival rates.
