Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the transition into adulthood of survivors born EP/ELBW with term-born controls.
  • To identify specific areas of divergence or similarity in adult outcomes.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective longitudinal cohort study design was employed.
  • EP/ELBW survivors and matched term-born controls from Victoria, Australia (1991-1992) were followed to age 25.
  • Outcomes assessed included education, employment, financial status, relationships, health, and risk-taking behaviors.
