Maternal diabetes rates, including gestational and preexisting conditions, vary by race and ethnicity. For minority mothers, diabetes risk was often higher in low and medium neighborhood hardship areas, not just high hardship zones.

- Diabetes prevalence was often elevated in low and medium hardship neighborhoods, challenging a simple linear relationship with socioeconomic status.
