Background:

  • Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic pain condition with complex etiology.
  • Understanding the physiological contributors to FMS pain is crucial for effective management.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the correlation between muscle pressure and pain intensity in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome.
  • To determine if objective measures of muscle pressure can predict subjective pain scores.

Main Methods:

  • 142 FMS patients and 38 controls were assessed.
  • Muscle pressure was measured using a pressure gauge and needle insertion.
  • Muscle pressure was correlated with visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores.

  • FMS patients reported significantly higher mean pain scores (6.6/10) and muscle pressure (32.9 mm Hg) compared to controls.
