Psychological interventions significantly boost nurses
Area of Science:
- Nursing and Healthcare
- Psychology
- Evidence-Based Practice
Background:
- Nurses require support to enhance their resilience.
- Psychological interventions are a potential avenue for resilience support.
Purpose of the Study:
- To determine the effects of psychological interventions on nurses' resilience.
- To identify moderating variables influencing intervention effectiveness.
Main Methods:
- Systematic literature search across 10 databases.
- Meta-analysis of 5 randomized controlled trials and 10 non-randomized controlled trials (852 participants).
- Statistical analysis using RevMan 5.3 and R program; publication bias assessed with funnel plots.
Main Results:
- Psychological interventions effectively improved nurses' resilience immediately post-intervention (SMD = 0.59) and short-term (SMD = 1.52).
- Emotion regulation, relaxation, and self-compassion interventions were most effective.
- Optimal intervention parameters included 121-150 min per session and offline delivery.
Conclusions:
- Psychological interventions offer a valuable tool for enhancing nurse resilience.
- Tailored interventions considering session duration and delivery mode (offline) are recommended.
- Further rigorous randomized controlled trials are needed to strengthen the evidence base.
