    Background:

    • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease.
    • Potential effects of RA on auditory function are not fully understood.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate hearing and middle ear function in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
    • To identify potential correlations between auditory changes and disease characteristics.

    Main Methods:

    • Audiological assessments including tympanometry and pure-tone audiometry were performed.
    • 68 patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis were included in the study.

    Main Results:

    • Reduced middle ear compliance was observed in 70.5% of patients, suggesting tympanossicular chain stiffening.
    • Conductive hearing loss was rare (1.40%).
    • Moderate high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss (20-30 dB) was present in 29.40% of patients, with some evidence of cochlear involvement.

    • Rheumatoid arthritis frequently impacts middle ear compliance.
    • Sensorineural hearing loss in RA patients may involve cochlear pathology.
    • The relationship between sensorineural hearing loss, RA disease activity, and treatment requires further investigation.
