Summary

Background:

  • Retromolar pads are crucial anatomical landmarks in the mandible.
  • Accurate classification and morphometric analysis of retromolar pads are essential for dental prosthetics and surgical planning.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To classify retromolar pad shapes using a 3D model.
  • To assess morphometric differences among these shapes.

Main Methods:

  • A 3D laser scanner was used to obtain scan data from mandibular casts of 200 patients.
  • Seven morphometric parameters were measured using image analysis software.
  • Retromolar pads were classified into three shapes: pear, oval/round, and triangular.

  • High intra-examiner reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.933) was achieved for shape classification.
