Summary

This study confirms mycetoma, a fungal or bacterial infection, is present in Ecuador. Most cases of mycetoma, including eumycetoma and actinomycetoma, were found in the coastal region.

  • Retrospective analysis of 35 mycetoma cases in Ecuador (1955-2021).
  • Inclusion of 5 cases from direct clinical experience and 30 from literature review.
  • Geographical data collection focusing on case origin within Ecuador.

  • Diagnosis of 35 mycetoma cases: 8 eumycetoma (23%) and 27 actinomycetoma (77%).
