Abstract:
Reports of chronic bromine intoxication have been few in recent years: possibly this condition is now being under diagnosed. A case of drug psychosis due to chronic bromide ingestion and incorrectly diagnosed as schizophrenia is reported. Specific pharmacokinetic aspects of bromide and bromo-ureide are outlined and the clinical features of chronic bromine poisoning are considered with reference to possible diagnostic errors. There are clear indications for diagnostic testing and for appropriate treatment.
