  • 21 studies were included from 12,285 retrieved.

Main Results:

  • Included studies focused on therapeutic relationships and communication (30%), patient involvement in treatment decisions (40%), and interventions to improve decision-making engagement (30%).
  • Mixed quality ratings were observed across the included research.
  • Shared decision-making demonstrates potential in mental health care.

Conclusions:

  • Healthcare providers should utilize communication skills to strengthen therapeutic relationships and patient engagement in decision-making.
  • Further high-quality research is necessary for supported decision-making strategies and their implementation in mental health services.
