    Summary

    Percutaneous abscess drainage is a safe and effective treatment for periappendiceal abscesses. This minimally invasive procedure simplifies appendectomy and can even obviate the need for surgery in select patients.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of percutaneous abscess drainage guided by computed tomography (CT) for periappendiceal abscesses.
    • To assess the impact of percutaneous drainage on subsequent appendectomy and overall patient outcomes.

    • Percutaneous abscess drainage was performed in 21 patients with periappendiceal abscesses (15 de novo, 6 postsurgical).
    • Computed tomography (CT) guidance was utilized for all drainage procedures.
    • Outcomes including drainage success, need for subsequent appendectomy, and complications were recorded.
