    Area of Science:

    • Nephrology
    • Reproductive Medicine
    • Transplantation

    Background:

    • Parenthood is increasingly common for renal allograft recipients.
    • Medical contraindications for parenthood in either sex are absent.
    • Guidelines are needed for counseling patients regarding pregnancy after renal transplantation.

    Observation:

    • A case report details a successful pregnancy and delivery in a cadaveric renal allograft recipient.
    • Urine protein excretion transiently increased during pregnancy but normalized post-partum.
    • The patient continued immunosuppressive therapy throughout the pregnancy.

    Findings:

    • No maternal or fetal complications occurred during the pregnancy.
    • The pregnancy and delivery were normal.
    • Immunosuppressive therapy did not impede a successful pregnancy outcome.

    Implications:

    • Renal allograft recipients can safely pursue parenthood.
    • Patient counseling should address potential pregnancy and immunosuppression complications.
    • Individualized decision-making is crucial for allograft recipients considering parenthood.
