Antibody Structure

60.1K
Overview
Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins (Ig), are essential players of the adaptive immune system. These antigen-binding proteins are produced by B cells and make up 20 percent of the total blood plasma by weight. In mammals, antibodies fall into five different classes, which each elicits a different biological response upon antigen binding.

Allergic Drug Reactions

843
Allergic reactions related to drugs are hypersensitivity responses driven by the immune system and bear no connection to the drug's therapeutic action. While drugs in isolation do not trigger an immune response, they can interact with endogenous proteins to form antigens. These antigens stimulate lymphocytes to produce antibodies. IgE-type antibodies attach themselves to mast cells. Upon subsequent exposure to the same stimulus, the antigen-antibody interaction is initiated, unleashing...

Area of Science:

  • Allergy and Immunology
  • Immunotherapy Research
  • Clinical Practice Review

Background:

  • Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is a disease-modifying treatment for allergic diseases.
  • AIT involves administering allergens to induce immune tolerance.
  • It offers a potential alternative to lifelong symptomatic treatments.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To provide a comprehensive review of allergen immunotherapy (AIT) in China.
  • To examine the efficacy, safety, and current clinical practices of AIT.
  • To discuss the future prospects, challenges, and opportunities for AIT in China.

Main Methods:

  • Literature review of AIT research and clinical studies in China.
  • Analysis of published data on AIT efficacy and safety profiles.
  • Synthesis of information on current AIT guidelines and accessibility.

Main Results:

  • AIT demonstrates significant efficacy in reducing allergy symptoms and improving patient quality of life.
  • Current AIT practices in China show a growing trend with established safety profiles.
  • Progress in AIT research is evident, with ongoing efforts to expand its application.

Conclusions:

  • Allergen immunotherapy is a valuable etiological treatment for allergies in China.
  • Continued research and optimized clinical application are crucial for AIT's advancement.
  • China faces unique opportunities and challenges in implementing widespread AIT programs.
