Summary

Bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) offers an objective method for assessing canine body composition, predicting fat-free mass (FFM) with high accuracy. This inexpensive technique provides a valuable alternative to traditional methods for veterinary care.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To validate bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) against dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for canine body composition analysis.
  • To determine resistivity coefficients for BIS in dogs.
  • To assess the accuracy of BIS in predicting fat-free mass (FFM) in a canine cohort.
