Balloon-assisted thrombin injection (BATI) offers a novel solution for treating profunda femoral artery pseudoaneurysms. This case demonstrates successful BATI using radial access for a challenging profunda femoral artery pseudoaneurysm.
Area of Science:
- Vascular Surgery
- Interventional Radiology
Background:
- Profunda femoral artery pseudoaneurysms are rare and difficult to treat with conventional methods due to deep anatomical location.
- Traditional techniques like ultrasound-guided compression or thrombin injection have limitations for this specific arterial site.
Observation:
- A case of a profunda femoral artery pseudoaneurysm in a patient with high surgical risk was encountered.
- The pseudoaneurysm presented a significant technical challenge for standard treatment modalities.
Findings:
- Balloon-assisted thrombin injection (BATI) was successfully employed using radial artery access.
- This approach provided an effective alternative for managing the complex profunda femoral artery pseudoaneurysm.
Implications:
- Radial access BATI represents a viable and potentially less invasive option for treating profunda femoral artery pseudoaneurysms.
- This technique may expand treatment possibilities for patients unsuitable for open surgery or traditional endovascular approaches.
