    Background:

    • Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease.
    • Colectomy specimens from UC patients can exhibit diverse mucosal changes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To describe and characterize villous regeneration in ulcerative colitis colectomy specimens.
    • To differentiate villous regeneration from epithelial dysplasia in UC.

    Main Methods:

    • Review of 92 colectomy specimens from ulcerative colitis patients.
    • Gross examination for mucosal abnormalities.
    • Histological analysis of characterized zones.

    Main Results:

    • Three cases with extensive villous regeneration were identified.
    • Regeneration appeared as poorly defined velvety mucosal zones, mainly in the ascending and transverse colon.
