Summary

This study investigated whether applying electrical stimulation to the brain's primary somatosensory cortex could improve how people perceive their internal bodily signals and process emotions. While the stimulation did not change most measures of internal body awareness or emotional perception, it did lead to a specific increase in the participants' awareness of their own heartbeat. These results suggest that while this brain stimulation technique has limited effects on general emotional processing, it may influence specific aspects of internal body perception.
