Genetic analysis of vancomycin-variable Enterococcus faecium clinical isolates in Italy

Vancomycin-variable enterococci (VVE) can revert to vancomycin resistance (VRE) during treatment, potentially leading to therapy failure. This study identified VVE-susceptible isolates that regained resistance through specific genetic changes.
