Olfactory misinformation provides refuge to palatable plants from mammalian browsing

Herbivores avoid eating palatable plants when they smell undesirable neighbors, a phenomenon called associational refuge. This study shows that using plant odor as virtual neighbors effectively protects valuable eucalyptus seedlings from herbivory.
