Background:

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are rare, benign bone tumors characterized by blood-filled cystic spaces.
Accurate classification and prognostic indicators are crucial for effective management of ABCs.

Purpose of the Study:

To propose a novel classification system for aneurysmal bone cysts based on morphology and aggressiveness.
To evaluate the prognostic significance of this classification on treatment outcomes, specifically recurrence rates.

Main Methods:

Review of 121 cases of long bone ABCs treated at a specialized orthopedic center.
Follow-up of 103 cases for over one year.
Development of a classification system categorizing lesions into 5 morphological groups and 3 grades of aggression.

Main Results:

A proposed classification system identified significant prognostic differences among morphological groups.
Overall recurrence rate was 13%, with no recurrences in the inactive group.
