Summary

This study found that older age, lymph node, and distant metastases predict poor outcomes in differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). Incorporating age into risk assessment is crucial for better DTC patient management.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate long-term outcomes of DTC patients.
  • To identify predictors of excellent and incomplete treatment responses.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective chart review of 230 DTC patients (age >13) with ≥18 months follow-up.
  • Analysis of demographic, histological, and therapeutic data.
  • Multivariable logistic regression to identify predictors of incomplete response.

Main Results:

  • 61.7% of patients achieved excellent response; 24.3% had incomplete response.
  • Predictors of incomplete response included age >55 (OR=5), lymph node (OR=3.4), and distant metastases (OR=29).
  • Older age significantly impacted outcomes in intermediate and high-risk DTC patients.

Conclusions:

  • Age is a significant factor in DTC recurrence risk assessment.
  • Age should be integrated into risk stratification models for DTC.
