Mathematical analysis of PO2 and local flow distribution in the carotid body

A common capillary velocity of streaming blood, i.e. a common local flow combined with the geometry of the vascular elements already explains the measured left-shifted PO2 histogram. A slight variation of the vascular arrangement can also explain higher PO2 values without the assumption of a very high flow in the capillaries.
