Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To empirically test the existence of a strong hierarchy (proficiency barrier) between fundamental motor skills and sport-specific skills.
  • To examine the relationship between identified transfer processes (generalization and adaptation) and the presence of this proficiency barrier.

  • Twenty-seven children and adolescents performed six motor tasks: countermovement jump, standing long jump, leap, high jump, long jump, and hurdle transposition.
