  • 12,287 participants underwent nightly in-home monitoring for ~6 months.
  • Under-the-mattress sensors estimated snoring duration and apnea-hypopnea index (eAHI).
  • Uncontrolled hypertension defined by repeated daytime blood pressure measurements (≥140/90 mmHg).

Main Results:

  • 20% of participants had uncontrolled hypertension.
  • Snoring >10%, >20%, and >30% of sleep time occurred in 29%, 14%, and 7% of the population, respectively.
  • Higher snoring duration (75th vs. 5th percentile) showed a ~1.9-fold increased odds of uncontrolled hypertension, independent of eAHI.

Conclusions:

  • Objective, multi-night snoring assessment is feasible in large populations.
  • Snoring is common and significantly associated with hypertension, independent of sleep apnea.
  • Objective snoring detection may offer clinical utility for identifying cardiovascular risk.
