The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Summary

This study on nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) found that induction chemotherapy combined with chemoradiotherapy improved outcomes. Most NPC patients were male, EBV-positive, and non-smokers, with high complete response rates to treatment.

Background:

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has complex epidemiological patterns influenced by demographics, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, and smoking.
Understanding NPC's clinical profile and optimizing treatment requires analyzing these influencing factors.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze epidemiological patterns, histological characteristics, and treatment outcomes of NPC patients.
To evaluate the effectiveness of induction chemotherapy and concurrent chemoradiotherapy protocols in NPC treatment.

Main Methods:

Retrospective study at Tawam Hospital, UAE (2016-2023) analyzing 41 NPC patients.
Epidemiological analysis of age distribution, histological classification (WHO guidelines), and treatment outcomes.
Assessment of chemotherapy regimens (cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT).

Main Results:

Significant male predominance (82.93%), high EBV positivity (100%), and mostly non-smokers (68.29%).
Induction chemotherapy showed a 73.17% uptake and 65.85% complete response (CR) rate.
Combined radiation therapy with concurrent and induction chemotherapy yielded high CR rates (up to 80%) and the best 36-month survival (46.43%).

Conclusions:

Demographic variables, EBV infection, and smoking significantly impact NPC development and treatment outcomes.
Customized chemotherapy and advanced radiotherapy strategies demonstrate success in NPC management.
Further multicentric studies are recommended to validate findings and improve NPC treatment approaches.
