Summary

Background:

Stroke survivors experience diverse consequences impacting recovery and quality of life.
Feminine sexual dysfunction is a common yet often overlooked issue post-stroke.
Trunk stability is crucial for functional recovery and mobility in stroke patients.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the correlation between feminine sexual dysfunction and trunk stability in women post-stroke.
To explore relationships between sexual function, quality of life, and stroke-related impairments.
To identify factors influencing sexual health outcomes in stroke survivors.

Main Methods:

A cross-sectional observational study involving 38 women (19 stroke survivors, 19 controls).
Utilized validated instruments including the Feminine Sexual Function Index and Trunk Impairment Scale.
Spearman's correlation analysis was performed to assess relationships between variables.

Main Results:

Stroke survivors reported significantly poorer sexual function compared to controls (p = 0.007).
A significant correlation was found between feminine sexual dysfunction and trunk stability (p < 0.05).
Quality of life was also significantly correlated with sexual dysfunction (p < 0.05).

Conclusions:

Feminine sexual dysfunction is linked to trunk stability in stroke survivors, potentially due to pelvic floor muscle synergy.
Physical therapists play a vital role in assessing and addressing physical factors affecting sexual health post-stroke.
Multidisciplinary care should integrate physical therapy to improve sexual health outcomes for stroke survivors.
