Background:
- Advanced materials are crucial for efficient environmental remediation.
- Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) offer tunable structures for catalytic applications.
- Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation is a promising advanced oxidation process for pollutant degradation.
Purpose of the Study:
- To synthesize and characterize a novel bimetallic metal-organic framework (BMOF), BUC-101.
- To evaluate the catalytic performance of BUC-101 for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation and rhodamine B (RhB) degradation.
- To investigate the stability, recyclability, and degradation mechanism of the BUC-101/PMS system.
Main Methods:
- One-pot solvothermal synthesis of BUC-101.
- Characterization using single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), FTIR, XPS, and SEM.
- Evaluation of RhB degradation efficiency using UV-Vis spectrophotometry.
- Assessment of catalyst stability and recyclability over multiple cycles.
Main Results:
- BUC-101 was successfully synthesized and characterized.
- BUC-101 demonstrated excellent catalytic activity for PMS activation, achieving 99.9% RhB degradation.
- The BUC-101/PMS system exhibited good stability and recyclability over five operational runs.
- Proposed mechanisms for PMS activation and RhB degradation were affirmed.
Conclusions:
- BUC-101 is a highly effective and stable bimetallic metal-organic framework catalyst for PMS activation.
