Human dentists significantly outperformed a convolutional neural network (CNN) in detecting periodontal lesions on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. The CNN demonstrated ineffectiveness in identifying various pathologies, highlighting the need for further development in AI for dental diagnostics.
