Background:

Ethical decision-making is crucial for nursing practice.
No existing tool specifically assesses nursing students' ethical decision-making competence.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop and validate the Ethical Decision-Making Competence Scale (EDM-CS).
To provide a reliable instrument for assessing ethical care decision-making skills in nursing students.

Main Methods:

Scale development using focus groups and Delphi method.
Cross-sectional design with 498 nursing students.
Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA & CFA) for validity and reliability.
Assessed convergent validity using the Scale of Protective Factor-24.

Main Results:

The final 18-item EDM-CS demonstrated a robust four-factor structure.
The scale explained 60.97% of the total variance.
High reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.90) and good convergent validity were confirmed.

Conclusions:

The EDM-CS is a validated instrument for assessing nursing students' ethical decision-making competence.
The scale can inform educational strategies to improve ethical care in nursing.
